Dance Movie 'Served' a fun Crowd-Pleaser
By Sylvia Romo
I know I'm not alone when I say I hate going to the movies when the
people around me yell at the screen and move around in their seats.
But I had to make an exception for "You Got Served," the hip-hop
comedy about the world of street dancing. It had everyone's head
bouncin' and booty shakin'.
"You Got Served" is about David (Omari Grandberry, B2K) and Elgin
(Marques Houston, IMx), best friends and leaders of the best
street-dancing crew around. They battle against other crews in a
local warehouse for money and respect -- until, that is, another
crew from out of town steps up and challenges them to battle for
$5,000.
David and Elgin lose.
The guys deliver packages whenever they need money. They always say
it'll be the last time, but it never is.
Elgin gets jumped and the merchandise is stolen while David is out
with Elgin's sister Liyah (Jennifer Nicole Freeman, "My Wife and
Kids"). Now Elgin has to pay for the merchandise that was stolen, so
he enters a dance competition to win $50,000 and the chance to be in
Lil' Kim's new music video.
Although David wants to help out his friend, Elgin turns his back on
David as well as his sister. The two friends break up and compete
for the same prize.
However, under sad circumstances, David and Elgin set their pride
aside and reunite, joining up with their other friends, Raz B, J
Boog and Lil' Fizz of B2K.
Anyone who likes hip-hop will love this film. At least, that's what
it seemed like when everyone in the theater was cheering.
